It’s been a while since I gave an overview on both of the urban gardens, so thought now was a good time.
I’ll start with my backyard vegetable garden in Brooklyn.
- Changed the layout due to my Grandmother’s excessive sprinkler use.
- Harvested my first cucumbers. Got two of them.
- Planted some kales and more arugula.
- Sweet pepper plant is starting to fruit more.
On my fire escape vegetable garden:
- The cherry tomato plant continues to grow, but still producing. Harvested about a half dozen more cherry tomatoes.
- Lettuces under the cherry tomato plant are slowly growing.
- Harvested some of the kales and swiss chard.
- Lettuces in the kale and chard bucket didn’t make it and got drowned out.
- Harvested two chili peppers.
- Looks like some more sweet peppers are starting to bloom.

Your garden vegetables are really coming along. Congratulations on the news interview.
Thanks Mary. It's been crazy fun so far. Think I'm addicted. Want to so how far into the season I can go with this.
The news crew flaked at the last minute. Supposed to reschedule.
Your cukes look GREAT! And I love how you've used every inch of your fire escape/balcony. Glad to find your blog!
Thanks Nancy. Finding out ways to utilize all of the space on the fire escape was fun. Still think I can squeeze in some more things. Happy you came across my blog and are enjoying.
Hi Mike. Great to discover your site and videos. Congrats on a inspiring harvest.

More those cucumber hang, the larger they will get.
Heya Mike! Would love to know more about your celery. Did you get what you would consider a good harvest? Did you plant seed or seedlings and finally, how did you harvest the celery? Did you pull the whole thing out or did you cut stalks individually?
I tried growing it by seed last year but think I started it too late. My friend tried with seedlings bought at a nursery but they didn’t really grow much.
Would love to try again (LOVE celery) but need more help since I don’t know anyone that had much success (at least here in Cleveland…zone 5b or 6).
I didn’t have much success with my celery either as I grew too much of it in one container. Give it another go and see what happens. Change something from what you did last time.
I am new to this blogging thing and have much to learn. I am curious as to why you post old items, some as old as two years. Is there benefit that I do not understand? Thanks for the lesson man!
I can help you out with some consulting work. Hit me up if you are interested. Thanks.
